November 2012
I really need to update this part of the site more often! Since my last update, we have kept busy with an assortment of kitchens, baths, and lots of smaller remodel and repair projects. Unfortunately, we have also had our share of storm damage repairs. It continues to amaze me how strong a house (especially in Holmes Run Acres) can be when mother nature lets loose.
Our clients today seem to be improving and updating their existing spaces rather than expanding with large scale additions. Sometimes the liitle things can make all the difference when it comes to enjoying your home. It also makes sense to get those energy related "to do" items on your list done as fuel costs continue to rise. Thank you to all our past and future clients!
March 2010
This winter was one for the record books! Amazingly, we are seeing very little real damage from the incredible snow storms. Other work moves on with us wrapping up our Woodburn road project and right in the middle of a HRA kitchen remodel. In both cases, we have found ourselves making lots of repairs to correct work improperly done in the past. The electrician has been busy correcting overloaded junction boxes, junctions buried in walls and under fused circuits as well as undersized wiring. We have even discovered on another project that the entire house had no grounded electrical service! In both cases these homes were either being maintained by professionals or remodeled by those who thought they knew how. Please consider whether your contractor or handy man is doing it right at a fair price or "getting it done" for less. Like most thing, you get what you pay for folks.
January 2010 As we start the New Year, I want to say THANK YOU to all of our clients and contractors who keep us working and eating during these less than ideal economic times! That not withstanding, we continue to stay busy throughout the Acres. Our latest Design/Build is all but finished at the top of Holmes Run Drive. This latest project expanded a single level to include a new bedroom, full bath, laundry room, foyer and carport. Interior renovations included a new kitchen and renovation of the existing bath. With updates to electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, this house will continue to be home for it's owners for many years to come!. Our newest project will take us out of the Acres, but not by far. A lonely Modern sits off Woodburn road and in need of a full renovation. The details are different, but the basics are the same. Our work will include some over due and ugly repairs, roofing, windows and interior work. Once the repairs are complete we will design and install a new kitchen and complete other interior projects. Feel free to stop by and see another diamond in the rough Modern take shape!
September 2009 Wow, I need to update this site more often! TWH has been staying busy in the Acres throughout the slow economy-Thank you! I hope to have photo's up soon to show off what we've been doing- stay tuned. Our latest Design/Build started last week at the top of Holmes Run Drive. Yes, we are dealing with the U-turners and traffic woes of the area. Please pardon our work as it surely doesn't help the situation. We are trying to be as low impact as possible. As always, please feel free to stop by any of our job sites to say hello or ask questions.
October 2008 Thanks to all for the well wishes this past spring. I have completely recovered from my tore Achilles and am back in action! The spring and summer of this year have been busy although with smaller projects. Gone are the days with equity building up every month in our homes and the stock market making us all feel quite good about the world. Our big spring project off Holmes Run Drive was a great success. This project was another TWH design/ build with the owners son, an aspiring architect, helping design the final roof plan. The entire project was managed and completed with the owners out of the country! Ah, technology. We finished the original project and even some additional work just in time for the owners return. The remainder of the summer and most of the fall, we have remained busy doing smaller window replacements, decks, baths, termite and storm repairs and other necessary projects. It is challenging work but not quite as exciting as watching a big addition or remodel take shape. Don't let CNN scare you, call me and lets build something!
April 2008 Hello and welcome to the TWH blog. I hope to use this space to keep folks up to date with our current projects and other items of interest. I will post problems and solutions to various home repair and construction issues that I hope some folks will find helpful. You may want to keep an eye out for items we will be recycling. We often have used but otherwise serviceable materials available to anyone who can use them. I believe recycling is the ultimate form of "green". Look for items here and at our job sites. Thanks to everyone who has sent well wishes as I recover from an Achilles tendon rupture. I will be back on the job site this week hopping around on my crutches. My arms are still working so feel free to wave at the crippled contractor!
